Could you write in more detail what kind of applets you really want. (What need to be shown and what parameters need to be adjustable...etc)

Parameters that can be varied are radius, refractive index and frequency of opertaion. The applet should specify which modes are possible and plot the ones that are required by the user

I am not sure what kind of fiber and what modes you refer to (want to be present in the applet)?
Could yuu provide more information about the physic model of the whole system you want?

any kind of fiber will do ...step index .. grated index...
as far as modes are concerned either it should plot HE TE TM modes or LP modes

There is a wave guide applet that may do what you want to simulate.

I am also working on an FDTD solver for photonics, including optic fibers. I will keep you posted when I have something. It may take me a long time to get there because I do not have much time for doing it.
