A simplifed Roller Coaster for use in elementary school.

This remixed version of roller coaster is simplified and meant for use in elementary classroom with the following features:
1. Remove the forces
2. If there is no friction, allow the KE bar graph to move downwards so that students can better visualize that total energy is constant using the bar graph.
3. Numeral values of PE , KE , energy loss, total energy are displayed (Allow the students to see the actual numbers and further reinforce the concept total energy is constant)
4. New Track Up and Down 2 (The object is not starting at the highest point.
5. Show the velocity of the object. (Allow students to see the change in velocity in various positions)
6. Thicken the velocity arrow to make it more visible.
7. Change timestep to slider 8. Change friction to "radio button" . (Hard code the value of k)
9. Use of consistent colour scheme.

Feel free to provide ideas on how to use this applet.

maybe for u E:\workspace\source\users\sgeducation\engrg1\RollerCoaster

Just to clarify that when u save everything in a folder, does that mean the jar file , the source files must all be in the same folder.

Just update it to a newer version.

Thanks to all those who have given me feedback. Here are the changes that I have made.

1. Inclusion of Height
2. KE and PE to 1 d.p. (more accurate)
3. Able to change the mass
4. Fix bugs in the friction friction
5. Users can choose to pause the simulation when the object is slowing to 0.
6. Include the perfect circle
7. Include table of values
8. Rearrange the control settings to make it more user friendly.

Hi, all.  Here are the rationale that I have given for some of the changes that I have made.

Design Features

(1) Removal of  extra information like g (acceleration due to gravity) and R (normal force) and k (coefficient of friction)

Reduce cognitive load. Information not required for elementary school students

(2) Consistent colour scheme for concepts related to potential energy (PE) and kinetic energy (KE)

Signaling in the form of consistent colour scheme to guide the learners in organizing information (Mautone & Mayer, 2001).
Make the relationship between the related concepts more explicit to the students.

(3) Display of velocity information in symbolic (length of arrow) and numerical form near the object.
Spatial Continguity Effect – related representations are placed close together  (Mayer, 2001). Allows the students to better visualize how the velocity changes as the height changes.

(4) Representation of kinetic energy, potential energy and the total energy in numerical form.
Numerical representation complements the representation in bar chart.  (Multiple representation)

(5) Modification of Total Energy bar such that it is made up of KE and PE. Change the orientation of KE bar such that it is moving down

Spatial Contiguity  Effect  (Mayer, 2001)
Let the students better visualize that the total energy is made up of KE and PE and how KE and PE are related.
