This applet design by prof Hwang, i just modified some color in layout.
The original applet Longitude and Transverse waves

You will find many particles arrange in a matrix shape.
There are springs connect between near by particles.

You can adjust spring constant kx and ky for horizontal springs and vertical springs.

Click dragx or dragy to drag any one of the particle away from the equilibrium position.

Then click play to see how the above change propagate as wave.

You can find how the longitude wave and transverse wave are formed.
e.g.
If ky=0 and
 1. only allow dragx, then you will find only longitude wave.
 2. only allow dragy, then you will find only transverse wave.
If kx>0 and ky>0 , you will find both longitude wave and transverse wave.
