News: This site host hundreds of physics related java simulations under create common license. All registered user will be able to get files for offline use when user login and view the simulation. Switch to this new system on 2007/02/14. (previous system2001-2007, 1996-2001) ,Check out Chinese forum to find more simulations and resources in Chinese.

  • Each click to thebutton will open a new window. Try it!

  • You can change:

    1. You can change size of the popup window.

    2. distance between slits, initial value = 150


    3. wavelength of plane wave, initial value=15

    4. Hit the "Start" button inside the window will start the animation

    5. You can also drag one of the slit to change distance between slits

    6. If you click or drag the LEFT mouse , the animation suspend. animation resume when it is released.

    7. distances from both slits to the mouse (d1,d2) are shown in the "texField"

      with format "d1 - d2 = path difference" , numbers are divided by wave length

      If you click or drag the LEFT mouse , the animation suspend. Click right mouse button again to resume.

    8. Close the created window to Quit.

    I liked to older version of the double slit applet better. The interface
    on the old one was much easier to use, although it was slower to run. I
    can't map the frequency to a color in my head. Can you put up a link to
    your old version?

    Why am I interested in your applet? My interest stems from our work on
    collaborative learning systems. I have a system called Flexible JAMM (Java
    Applets Made Multiuser) that allows the shared use of single-user applets,
    such as yours. Do you mind if we use the old version to test how
    difficult it will be for a developer to make an applet that can be used in
    this system?

    Dear sir
    This is a nice and suitable applet for the demo. Again in this applet if there is a vertical line like a screen and the indications of the points where the anti nodal and nodal lines meet this line, like in the Young's expt. i think the applet would have been more informative

    Please check out the following simulation first : single/multiple slit diffraction/interference

    It will show how the intensity changed with several parameters (slit width, slit separations... etc).

    Thank you for this applet.  This is exactly the illustration I needed in conjunction with our ripple tank demonstration of two-source interference. Smiley
