My goal is to have my students investigate the relationships involved in circular motion. I want them to understand the relationship between the following - the centripetal force as a function of mass (with velocity and radius remaining constant) - the centripetal force as a function of velocity (with mass and radius remaining constant) - the centripetal force as a function of radius (with velocity and mass remaining constant) With the applet, I have successfully been able to accomplish the third, but I can not find a way to manipulate for the other two. Is there a way that can be done? Thank you, Nicole 1. now need to set the velocity magnitude else no circular motion. the force is toggling , not sure if i did it correctly :( The force(acceleration) always perpendicular to velocity, and you always get circular motion (but different size of trajectory) If the acceleration is in the direction of velocity, the acceleration will change the magnitude the of velocity(change speed). Acceleration is the rate of the velocity change. a=dv/dt. So, if the acceleration is perpendicular to the velocity, the velocity will change direction only. You can drag the velocity to change its direction and magnitude, the magnitude of the force is changed by slider bar. 2. you can input the value for radius now! change to field instead of slider due to sometimes you want to input infinity for straight line path :( please let me know if i made/did any physics error(s). took me 3 hours to design for this! ;D Yeah! source codedownload the *.jar for using the applet on standalone without internet connection. i had an interesting problem with this source xml.
