Title: Ticker Tape Timer
Post by: engrg1 on November 04, 2012, 08:27:53 pm
Hi, all.

Have just created this ticker tape time simulation. My students always have difficulty understanding this and it does not help that I have only 1 ticker tape timer in class!

Hopefully, this ticker tape timer simulation will help them to gain a better understanding in kinematics by letting them "play around" with it.

Design Features:
(1) Allow the student to change velocity, accleration
(2) Diagram and values (multiple representation to reinforce the understand)
(3) Pause at every "stamp" to let the students "think hard" on what is happening
(4) Allow the students to change the accln and velocity anytime (as in the real ticker tape timer)

well done!
i like this :)

by the way, notice a bug in the acceleration

It is working fine. It is just that the difference is too small to be seen.

You can try this :
Start with initial velocity = 0
Accln = 100 m/s2

Look at the picture below.

I guess I will relook at the codes to see how to make the difference more "outstanding"

My latest edition

(1) Make the tape stop moving when it is reaching the "end"
(2) Default the choice of velocity when accln is chosen. Can see the "better" effect
(3) Place 2 decimal places for distance between the two points. Allow the students to see the different in distance even if this is not very obvious on the diagram

I think, that you are mistaken. I can prove it.
