Title: Lens (thick lens) and Mirror
Post by: Fu-Kwun Hwang on November 19, 2004, 03:06:58 pm
You can change the width,LEFT curvature,RIGHT curvature of the lens.
Index of refraction for the lens and the surrounding environment can be adjusted.
Try and play with it!

1. circular glass 2.parallel light through water drop 3.glass Lens A 4.glass Lens B 5.glass Lens C 6.glass Lens D

realy excelent
is ist possible to build yout applet into a german physik site - of course by telling your name as construktor of the applet
and sending the lin on this side to you
greetings wolfgang

is there any possibility to use your applet for teching purposes offline?
at our school we do not have an internet connection in our physics lab so i would be most greatfull if you woul add the "get applet button" for this applet too.

                                                       Thank you

Download button were created for this applet.
I also add another option for this applet to simulate mirror.

I get this message from hotmail, Note: There is no cure available for the virus on the file eyewatch.zip

It is not possible to download files from Hotmail that contain incurable viruses. Contact the originator of the file, inform them that the file contains a virus, and ask them to send a virus-free version of the file.
Please help.

There is no virus in our ZIP file.  The files we packed in the ZIP files are java class files and html files.
Please change you email to another one and click the button again

please tell me how can I downlod this applet. I can not find the download button.
My e-mail : gephufna@yahoo.com

Or you can send me a zip file to my e- mail.
Thank you very,very,very very,very,very much.

What you need is register at our web site and login to the system.
You will find download button , click the button and files related to the simulation will be sent to your email address.
This work for all the simulation web page on this server.
Check out URL http://www.phy.ntnu.edu.tw/ntnujava/ and register from the right frame.

focus point did not always exists.

Focus point exists when light rays are closer to the optical axis. Then, we can use 1/p+1/q=1/f

It is the same for mirror

Focus point exists when light rays are closer to the optical axis

Please write down in detail what did you do to get the above message.
There is no way I can help if I do not know what you were doing!

Thanks for very good programme  ;D

I want to use it for my project's present...can I?

But I want to know what data unit in this programme...

Title: Re: Lens (thick lens) and Mirror

It could be any unit: cm, m, inch ...
It does not matter. (If you understand the physics behind it , you will know why it does not matter.)

You are welcomed to use it for non-profit educational purpose.  :D
Please add link back to this web page when you use it!

Job well done. Fantastic.

I believed you study this very well way back in school.

Thanks for the wonderful post.

This is a great applet, the only things I would suggest are giving it units of measure. Particularly Diameter of the Lens, the lens SAG heights which would in turn tie into total Thickness of the Lens, and distance of the Focal Point. A very, very good applet for helping visualize what is going on though.

When you take a narrow bunch of rays you obtain a focus. If not you can see another interesting thing - a caustic. The applet gives a great explanation of the figures made by light on the bottom of shiny (e.g. metal) mugs owing to reflection and outside a glass of water owing to refraction. I dream about such an applet generating caustics in 3D for lenses and bottles when a bunch of sun rays falls at different angles on the objects.

professor,
can u show me how to use the simulation to adjust the thickness of the lens to see how it affect the focal length of the lens? whenever i try to change the width the left and right curvature keeps auto adjust. hence i can never keep the variable constant. thx
